The United Nations Population Development Fund (UNFPA) is an agency of the United Nations that promotes the implementation of the agency's sustainable development goals. UNFPA's sustainable development goals, known as the Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), were first introduced in 2015 and build upon the successes and failures of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to establish a set of goals that are more comprehensive, universal, and transformational in scope. No PovertyThe first goal is to end poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty. This goal is achieved by ensuring that all people have access to basic needs, such as food, water, education, healthcare, and social security. Zero HungerThe second goal is to achieve food security for all by promoting sustainable agriculture, food systems, and nutrition. This goal is achieved by ensuring that all people have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. Good Health and Well-beingThe third goal is to ensure that all people have access to good health and well-being. This goal is achieved by promoting universal health coverage, access to clean water and sanitation, and access to essential healthcare services. Quality EducationThe fourth goal is to ensure that all people have access to quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities. This goal is achieved by ensuring that all children have access to primary education, that all individuals have access to secondary and higher education, and that education systems are responsive to the changing needs of society. Gender EqualityThe fifth goal is to achieve gender equality and promote women's empowerment. This goal is achieved by ensuring that women have equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and decision-making opportunities. Clean Water and SanitationThe sixth goal is to ensure that all people have access to clean water and sanitation. This goal is achieved by promoting water security, reducing water pollution, and increasing access to sanitation facilities. Affordable and Clean EnergyThe seventh goal is to ensure that all people have access to affordable and clean energy. This goal is achieved by promoting renewable energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and increasing energy efficiency. Decent Work and Economic GrowthThe eighth goal is to promote decent work opportunities and economic growth for all. This goal is achieved by creating job opportunities, promoting sustainable industries, and ensuring financial inclusion for all individuals.
